Clarity you can operate.

On The Rock helps growing, mission-driven organizations replace tribal knowledge and operational confusion with a living operating foundation — so leaders can regain margin and advance their mission.

The problem

You've become the system

The work runs through your head, your inbox, and your meetings. You're the routing center for every decision, the answer to every question, the reason things don't fall apart. Growth made it worse, not better. You didn't set out to build a business that can't run without you — but here you are, carrying an operating system that should belong to the organization.

Healthy systems create margin. Margin creates capacity. Capacity advances the mission.

Why On The Rock

What makes this different

An operating foundation — not just documents.

We don't hand you a pile of SOPs. We build a connected picture of how work, roles, systems, decisions, information, and controls actually relate — so documentation is an output of the system, not the system itself.

Built on evidence.

We refuse to invent truth. We separate confirmed facts from assumptions and mark what's unknown as unknown. AI helps us organize, compare, and find gaps — it never quietly manufactures organizational truth.

Human stewardship, AI‑assisted quality control.

Structured information and AI make your system faster to build, inspect, and maintain. You keep authority over every decision and approval — speed without handing responsibility to the technology.

The Proven Process

How it works

  1. Discern & Discover

Understand how your organization actually works before prescribing anything.

  2. Architect

Design how your organization should be represented, owned, and governed.

  3. Build

Turn that knowledge into a usable operating foundation: processes, roles, systems, controls, KPIs.

  4. Activate

Move it from documents into daily operations: configuration, training, adoption.

  5. Steward

Keep the system truthful, current, and improving over time.

Engagements

What we do

Start here

Discovery

A fixed-scope engagement that diagnoses your current reality and defines the right path before anything bigger is quoted. No premature promises.

Foundation

Build your process universe and operating architecture.

Implementation

Configure tools, workflows, and training to make it real — technology-agnostic, because the model drives the tools, not the reverse.

Stewardship

Ongoing process-health monitoring, QC, and quarterly reviews that keep the foundation alive.

Who it's for

This is you if…

You lead an owner-led, founder-led, ministry-led, or mission-driven organization that has outgrown tribal knowledge but doesn't yet have a mature operating system.

You're growing faster than your practices, dependent on a few key people, running important work through memory and meetings, and trying to delegate without clear processes or decision rights. You're big enough to feel the cost of the disorder — but not big enough to build an internal process office.

About us

We've been the system too

On The Rock was founded by Jeff Johnson, whose early career ran through the automation world — from maintenance technician to technical leader — where he led dozens of multi-day training courses and trained more than 200 service technicians, maintenance technicians, and production operators. That work sparked a lasting passion for developing people.

In 2017 he co-founded Midwest Interventional Systems with a long-time friend. Two years in, the company outgrew its 2,500-square-foot facility in Fridley and moved to 25,000 square feet in Maple Grove — and in the two years after the move, the team grew from 15 employees to 80. He has lived what rapid growth does to an organization's operating system: the tribal knowledge, the key-person dependencies, the work that runs through memory and meetings. On The Rock exists because he's been on the other side of it.

“To shepherd businesses, communities, and people to clarity.”

Jeff Johnson — founder, On The Rock

That purpose is what this firm is built on. The name says the rest: build your foundation on the rock.

Our foundation

The rock is the foundation; the house is what you build on it

On The Rock is grounded in a conviction that the organizations, people, and resources in a leader's care are a responsibility to steward well, not merely assets to optimize. The wise builder chose the rock — not because it kept the storm away, but because what he built could stand when the storm came. The rain still falls. The house still stands.

Our promise: a stronger foundation, clearer navigation, and a system built to last.
